I am here and what a journey it has been. To meet up with the rest of the team who left on Friday - I flew from Egypt to Manchester, Manchester to London, London to Dubai, Dubai to Johannesburg and then finally from Johannesburg to Richards Bay - 37 hours in Airports and Airplanes (I wouldn't recommend it).
As I expected the fact that I missed a day was the source of much humour for the team and my lack of work apparently requires extra effort tomorrow. In the short time I have been here I have already witnessed the commitment our hosts have for the project that they run and the daily sacrifices that they make. I will write more tomorrow when, as Dean said " I have done something other than sit on my backside to write about".

What is the project about?
Our mission will be to make a real difference to the lives of the children in the orphanage.
We will be in South Africa for just 7 days but in that time we hope to give the children living in the Orphanage a safe and healthy environment in which to live, through the repair and refurbishment of the electrics, kitchen, animal enclosures and living areas. The living conditions and health of the Children will also be improved by laying paths to keep them out of the mud in the winter months.
Along with this two members of the team will also provide educational support throughout the week.
